IQGeo’s Special Message for Fiber Network Council’s 20th Year Anniversary

IQGeo congratulates the Fiber Network Council APAC on reaching this remarkable 20-year milestone. The Council’s dedication to advancing fiber connectivity and supporting the unique needs of the Asia Pacific region has made a lasting and meaningful impact on the industry. IQGeo looks forward to continuing our collaboration to help network operators build better networks.” – Sudipt Khandelwal, Director, Telecom at IQGeo

Fiber Network Council APAC had the great opportunity to talk with Mrs. Annabel Niemann, Communications Director of IQGeo who shared some of the insights from her vast experience:

Can you provide a brief overview of your organization’s involvement in the fiber industry and its contributions to advancing connectivity in the APAC region?

Together with customers and partners, IQGeo is building better networks that are vital to delivering fiber connectivity across APAC and beyond. From expediting planning and design with digital twin technology to enabling field teams to optimize network operations and maintenance with real-time analytics, IQGeo provides network operators with a single solution to manage their entire network lifecycle.

As an industry innovator, could you share a recent example of a fiber technology advancement or solution your company has developed that has had a significant impact on the market?

As many network operators shift focus from fiber rollouts to connecting homes and businesses to realize the full revenue potential of their network investments, IQGeo is helping to bridge the gap between network construction and operation. With its geospatial task automation software, operators can automatically assign work tickets to field teams and monitor work progress in real time, increasing field workforce productivity and accelerating time to value.

From your perspective, where do you see the current state of the fiber industry in the APAC region? What trends or developments are shaping its growth and evolution?

While fiber-to-the-home rollouts and the growing demand for data centers are driving a surge in fiber investment across the APAC region, poor data quality and governance caused by a lack of systems integration are stalling advancements. To help maintain an accurate overview of their networks, fiber companies increasingly demand native mobile technologies that enable real-time data access and automatic updates as changes occur in the field.

Looking into the future, what exciting opportunities or challenges do you foresee for the fiber industry in the APAC region over the next 5-10 years?

The APAC region will see significant investment in 5G, data centers and rural connectivity over the coming years. However, challenges posed by the skilled labor shortage, increasing competition and sustainability commitments continue to hinder real progress. To accelerate fiber rollouts, operators must prioritize improving network data quality and bridging the gap between network design and build.

In terms of infrastructure development and deployment, what unique insights does your organization bring to the table that contribute to the success of fiber networks in the diverse APAC landscape?

IQGeo’s geospatial network management software is the fiber industry’s only single software solution for managing the entire network lifecycle. Having an integrated solution for planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance helps operators maintain an accurate view of complex, diverse network assets across the region.

Could you share a success story or case study that highlights how your organization’s fiber solutions have positively impacted a specific industry or community within the APAC region?

One area where IQGeo has previously supported network operators in Asia Pacific is to reconnect communities impacted by natural disasters, which are becoming more prevalent in the region as climate change intensifies. By providing an accurate digital model of their network, IQGeo helps operators to assess damage quickly and speed up recovery efforts by facilitating real-time data capture and powerful situational awareness.

How does your organization approach collaboration and partnerships within the fiber ecosystem to drive innovation and ensure seamless connectivity experiences for consumers and businesses?

IQGeo proactively engages with stakeholders across the fiber ecosystem to further our mission of delivering digital equity to communities worldwide. Broadband technology plays a pivotal role in delivering today’s critical services and the industry needs to work together to fill the adoption gap while also building more resilient, greener networks. Whether pooling knowledge through industry memberships or working with technology and service partners to deliver enhanced solutions, IQGeo is committed to fostering collaboration that empowers communities with reliable connectivity.

Given your experience, what advice would you offer to businesses and governments aiming to accelerate the adoption of fiber-optic technology in underserved or rural areas of the APAC region?

When delivering broadband to underserved rural areas, especially in the APAC region where the terrain can be challenging and existing infrastructure limited, it’s important to get field work right first time. Going back and forth is time and cost intensive, so businesses must empower teams on the ground with the tooling and information they need to do the job as efficiently and accurately as possible.

As an industry leader, what role do you believe the Fiber Network Council APAC plays in fostering knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration among stakeholders in the fiber industry?

For the past two decades, the Fiber Network Council APAC has been a key partner in IQGeo’s mission to drive innovation in the fiber industry. As the Council marks its 20th anniversary, the Asia Pacific region is experiencing an unprecedented surge in fiber deployments. However, this rapid growth brings a complex mix of political, business and technical challenges. By combining the Council’s APAC-specific market intelligence with IQGeo’s network management expertise, we will continue to help fiber companies solve the interconnected challenges unique to their region.

Looking ahead to the next decade, where do you envision the fiber industry in the APAC region? How will emerging technologies and evolving market dynamics shape the landscape?

Growing demand in APAC for high-bandwidth applications like cloud computing and IoT means network operators that focus on providing reliable connectivity will have the competitive edge over the coming decade. We will continue to see operators making greater investments in data management as they seek to better monitor and optimize network performance.
